Breaking free from Rightmove. What can Estate Agents do?

Rightmove has put their prices up… AGAIN.

 

Why don’t we all get together and boycott Rightmove?

 

Does anyone have any advice on dropping to the basic Rightmove package?

 

I am hearing and reading this more and more. And is it really any surprise with the fees that Rightmove are now charging?

But the fact is Rightmove, have got something right. They’ve built their audience, and they’ve built a really loyal audience.

Whether you are on Rightmove or not, customers will still use the platform. And in my honest opinion, the reason that no one else has been able to take them on is because Rightmove are making it about the customer and not the agent.

I have listened to recorded conversations, where I know someone has been looking on Zoopla, because the number is tracked, and they’ve said, ‘I can see your property on Rightmove.’

It’s no different to ordering a Coca-Cola at the pub and being asked if Pepsi is ok.

So, what can you do to stop yourself getting stuck?

Simple answer, but not always so simple to implement.

Build your own audience.

Think about where your audience are based, and how you can get to them. Chances are, you’re focused on a particular geographical area. So, put yourself everywhere. So much so, that everyone locally knows who you are.

And this doesn’t always have to be costly. Can you attend local networking events? Volunteer locally, even if it’s just a few hours a month. Sponsor small local events. Join all of the community Facebook groups and be active.

Just to caveat that. I don’t mean post every single property you’re selling. I mean to provide value to your neighbours. Join in conversations so everyone knows your name. (And update your Facebook bio in said group!!)     

Do you know your local magazines? You can often advertise fairly cheaply in these. Even better, look at PR opportunities. But in short, be everywhere.
